PASS Choreographer
In January 2023 Dance Base supported PASS, Edinburgh College, to recruit two independent Choreographers / Physical Theatre Makers to lead a performance project with Edinburgh College’s BA Dance and Drama students. The two selected artists were Farah Saleh and Pete Lannon.
Choreographer Placement with Scottish Dance Theatre
In this new collaboration, Dance Base & Scottish Dance Theatre joined together to support a local artist to undertake a week of research and experimentation with the SDT Company. The selected artist was Bridie Gane.
Eadrainn | International Residency with Dance Ireland
Funded by the Irish Arts Council’s International Residency Initiatives Scheme, Dance Ireland and Dance Base Scotland are delighted to work together to offer six, fully resourced reciprocal residencies for three Ireland-based and three Scotland-based artists as part of a programme of artistic and cultural exchange.
Scratch Night
In March 2023 we held our second Scratch Night – an evening of work-in-progress performances showcasing bold new work by Daniel Davidson, Max Evans, Marios Ento-Engkolo and Anya Sirina, curated by independent artist Lewis Normand.
B.DANCE & PRIME | The Infinite Life Journey
In 2023, Dance Base partnered with Taiwanese dance company B.DANCE to support their choreographers to work with Dance Base’s dance company for the over-60’s PRIME on The Infinite Life Journey, the second stage of B.LOSSOM, a cross-generational international exchange project between Taiwan and Scotland.
Love Dance Scotland Artist Bursary
Dance Base have partnered with Citymoves Dance Agency, Dance Base Scotland, Dance North, Dundee Rep & Scottish Dance Theatre, Tramway Glasgow and The Work Room, to provide three £6000 Artist Bursaries. The Bursaries were awarded to Dorine Mugisha, Hayley Earlam and Mele Broomes.
Launchpad with Imaginate
In 2023 Dance Base will partner with Imaginate to support dance artist Dan Brown to take part in their Launchpad programme. During his Launchpad Placement, Dan will be exploring a new dance piece that follows a lone astronaut lost in deep bubblegum space trying desperately to find their own space – a place to call home, to feel like they belong.
Hong Kong Street Dance development Alliance
In 2023 Dance Base partnered with the Hong Kong Street Dance Development Alliance to build a connection between the hip hop and street dance communities in Scotland and Hong Kong. From this collaboration, Scotland-based hip hop dance duo Ursula Manandhar and Nevil Jose have now been invited to present their new work Reflection at The Box 4.0 Festival for four performances in June 2023.
Artistic Development Week with Edinburgh International Festival
In July 2023 Dance Base and Edinburgh International Festival will welcome 12 Scotland-based dancers to take part in an Artistic Development Week with dancers from The Rite of Spring / common ground[s], the first collaboration between the Pina Bausch Foundation (Germany), École des Sables (Senegal) and Sadler’s Wells (UK), which will be presented as part of Edinburgh International Festival in August!
Scratch Night
In October 2023 we held our third Scratch Night event. Curated by Artistic Director Tony Mills, the evening presented new works by Chewed Pink, Oxana Banshikova & Sanath Kumar Sreedharan, Gwynne Bilski and WAMNAM, showcasing the fantastic breadth of work being made in Scotland today.
