Professional Contemporary Class (90min)

Each week Dance Base offer classes for the professional dance community. Our classes are taught by a range of artists who are actively working in Scotland so that they can share their technique and approach with the professional sector. Find out more about our teachers and the practices on offer in the upcoming term below.

Mondays 10:00 - 11:30

20 April - 18 May with Lewis Normand

This class draws on the foundations of Cunningham technique alongside principles of momentum and release. We explore alignment, flow, and weight, with a focus on efficiency, musicality, and dynamic range. Material may include standing work, floor work, traveling sequences, jumps, and elements of improvisation. Encouraging expansiveness and fluidity throughout the movement material, this professional-level class aims to create a shared space for focused training.

25 May - 22 June with Melissa Heywood & Guest Teachers

Melissa’s professional class will warm you up from the inside out as you dance together on the floor and through the air. Blending floorwork, improvisation, travelling exercises, and choreographic phrases, she invites dancers to explore fluidity, strength and connection throughout her class.

Saturdays 13:15-14:45

25 April -23 May with Steinvor Palsson with live music by Barney Strachan

Steinvor will be teaching a Cunningham-influenced technique class with an emphasis on moving with ease, efficiency and rhythmic clarity. Focusing on alignment, breath and musicality, the class will begin with standing exercises for stability, mobility, strength and control. These qualities will be further explored through centre and travelling sequences, progressing on to jumps and leaps, encouraging a dynamic use of the space and the pleasure of moving with other dancers to the wonderful sound of live music by Barney Strachan

30 May - 27 June with Skye Reynolds

This class dives into somatic movement via embodied anatomy & improvisation, informed by Skye's training in The Feldenkrais Method and Body-Mind Centering®️. Each week we'll explore our body systems, drawing upon sensory awareness, developmental movement and the nervous system via encounters that support well-being and playfulness. An accessible class for curious minds seeking fresh perspectives on the moving body as a creative resource. NB: Class may invite consensual touch (optional).

Please note: Classes are offered at Pro Drop In Rate of £5.50 for those who are in dance training, or who are actively working in the dance sector at a professional level in areas of performing, making, teaching and/or choreographing.
