About the Class

Professional Contemporary Classes will run each morning through the festival Tuesday - Sunday with an exciting line up of Scottish and international guest teachers.

Tues 04 - Sun 09 Aug | Teacher: Helena Wilhelmsson
The class is intended to train and refine our tools for physical precision and poetic focus. We will work from the floor and upwards to awaken the body’s strength and energy, use improvisation as a way to sharpen our awareness, cultivate a sensitive focus, and connect with different movement qualities, to later on deepen our understanding through exploration of coordination exercises, floor work and set phrase material.

Tues 11 - Sun 16 Aug | Teacher: Tess Letham
Tess’s classes are inspired by David Zambrano’s Flying Low & Passing Through methods. Class begins with playful group tasks that interconnect us to the space and to each other, travelling and spiralling in pathways through the room. We will then focus on specific movement sequences that explore gathering and sending the whole body, moving into and out of the floor with ease, efficiency and the joy of dancing together.

Tues 18 - Sun 23 Aug | Teacher: Jack Anderson
This class aims to offer dancers what they need to set them up for the day in a way that suits their own body and mind. A range of useful physical tools will be suggested with a sense of invitation. Everything is optional - a framework through which to exercise choice, interpretation, empowerment and pleasure in moving.

Tues 25 - Sun 30 Aug | Teacher: Bea Bidault
Bea's class aims to bring professional dancers to discover a nuanced and strong sense of identity in their performance through her creative practice. Bea's movement vocabulary is rooted in contemporary dance and physical theatre. She will offer ways to explore the convergence of these different ways of moving. The class will flow from exploring set movement, how to come in and out of the floor, specific illusionary drills and improvisation scores. Bea will offer participants tools to expand movement pathways and enhance their awareness. Allowing for a full-body exploration of targeted aspects, we will center the focus on isolations, sequential movements, our relation with gravity, and how to activate or diminish movement to find textures and dynamics such as suspensions, accelerations, freezes, and imagined external forces that shape and interrupt us.

These classes are available to the professional community, dancers in professional training and those with an established working practice of contemporary dance. Professionals Rate: £5.50 per class. Advance booking recommended due to high demand.

NOTE: If the class shows no availability, please contact us on +44(0)131 225 5525 and register for the waiting list with our reception team.
