Jazz is characterised by expressive, stylistic choreography, drawing inspiration from a wide variety of African American dance styles of the early 20th Century including Ragtime, Charleston, Lindy Hop and Mambo, alongside Musical Theatre and Hollywood influences.

In this All Levels class, we will build strong technical foundations while exploring a range of jazz styles in a high-energy environment. Designed to challenge and inspire, the class blends Classical Jazz technique with expressive choreography, drawing on styles such as Musical Theatre Jazz, Lyrical Jazz, and Commercial Jazz.

Please wear comfortable clothes you can move in and Jazz shoes or bare feet. Don't forget to bring your water bottle!

This class will be participating in our annual Christmas show!

Meet the Teachers

Meggy Viana

Dance has always been part of who I am. I spent over 10 years in Portugal training and working professionally in Hip Hop before moving from Lisbon to Scotland in 2014 to dive into classical styles. I studied at Performing Arts Studio Scotland, where I earned a BA (Hons) in Dance and later a PDA in Teaching.

I’m endlessly curious and love to keep learning. That’s taken me to many places such as, New York for Jazz and Contemporary training, to Brazil to explore Afro-Brazilian dance, and to Cuba to study Afro-Cuban movement.

As a choreographer, I’ve created work for the Edinburgh Fringe, Celtic Connections in Glasgow, and Edinburgh Carnival, collaborating with incredible artists from around the world, including Brazil, Cuba, South Africa, Costa Rica, New York, and Zambia. I love bringing people and cultures together through movement.
