Originating in the Highlands of Scotland, this competitive, solo dance style combines athletic footwork and graceful arm movements showcasing strength and precision.

This Highland Improvers course is energetic, fast and introduces a higher standard of Highland dance steps.

Enjoy the sounds of Scotland, dancing our national hornpipes and jigs!

Please wear comfortable clothing you can move in and Highland or Jazz shoes.

Meet the Teachers

Veronica Jackson

Veronica started dancing at the age of five, not knowing that she will continue to have a successful career in dance.

She is a qualified UKA Highland Dance teacher and a former world champion and teaches Highland Dance in primary schools in the Edinburgh district in addition to her classes at Dance Base.

Veronica is also qualified in Classical Ballet (ARAD). She has had a very successful career as a dancer, performing in all the major theatres in Scotland working with Bruce McClure for many years.

How to prepare

Highland Improvers is a very active class, so be sure to wear comfortable clothing and if you have a pair of Highland Dancing Shoes or soft dance shoes (eg Jazz Shoes)
