About the intensive:
Over the past year I have explored how we meet the intimacy of touch personally and collectively. How we understand what we want and what we bring to others when we come together.
This workshop invites participants to dance with greater awareness of our identity, our availability to trust and the desire that brought us into this practice in the first and second instance. For me, these human and relational questions are inseparable from technique. And to understand how they weave together (weight for instance is a physical and emotional measure, a technique as well as a matter of trust) can make us fly on multiple planes.
Matters of personal beliefs, boundaries and consent practices are often considered secondary and we don't make much time for it in the average Contact Improv class but if actively anticipated, it will allow us to connect more consciously, therefore freely and I might even say, lovingly. However, this is for you to find and to discern where you situate yourself, what language and inquiry you choose and how the people you dance with meet you there.

Meet the Teachers
Laura Doehler
Laura has danced Contact Improvisation internationally since 2004, studying with pioneers including Steve Paxton, Nancy Stark-Smith and Karen Nelson. A London-based dance artist and Trinity Laban scholar, she founded Exit Map, a non-profit exploring collaboration, collective agency and new socio-environmental practices through participatory performance, outdoor dance events and embodied co-working spaces. Laura teaches regularly at the National Centre for Circus Arts (CI, movement analysis and contemporary dance), at Siobhan Davies Studios and independently across Europe.
