In short: the kind of dance you see in a music video. Commercial combines Hip Hop, Jazz and more to create a flashy, energetic style made to be *seen*. Commercial is all about confidence, swag and bringing that fire!

Already got some dance experience and are looking for a challenge? Then this class is for you! Over an hour and a half we’ll hone your technical and performance skills (and work up a sweat in the process!) We’ll explore the multifaceted style that is commercial moving from elements of Jazz Funk, Hip Hop, Street, Reggaeton and much more. We’ll develop a new choreography every two weeks with an opportunity for you to have your say on the track we get down to. Jo will help you feel your most confident self so bring that sassy, fierce energy and get ready to own it!

Please wear comfortable clothing and trainers. Don’t forget to bring your bottle of water!

This class will be participating in our annual Christmas show!

Meet the Teachers

Jo Richards

Jo started her training in Kent and came to Edinburgh in 2000 to study a degree in Applied Sports Science.

She has been teaching and dancing professionally for over 23 years in various styles including Jazz, Hip Hop/Street, Commercial and Musical Theatre. Jo has lectured at Telford College, competed in Florida representing Scotland in the Hip Hop Squad at the IASF Worlds competition and was selected by Morag Deyes to travel to Delhi in 2010 to represent Dance Base at the Commonwealth Games Handover ceremony.

Whilst teaching and choreographing Jo is a qualified Personal Trainer and also formed the professional all female dance troupe Hustle in 2011. The ladies have had a meteoric rise to success with their first performance at TITP, continued work with the BBC, Edinburgh's Got Talent finalists 2011 and continually tour with Vive Le Cabaret as core cast members.

A consummate professional with a relaxed approach in her classes, Jo believes dance should be all inclusive and fun.

How to prepare

Wear comfortable clothing and footwear. Don’t forget your bottle of water!

As we move into the colder months of our changeable Scottish weather, please wear layers to the class to keep sufficiently warm during, as we are still continuing to ensure ventilation in our studios.
