With its origins in Music Hall, Cabaret, Fan Dancing and Strip Tease, Burlesque is a witty, saucy dance style brimming with character and style.

Want to live out the drama, glamour and style of Burlesque? Well Burlesque Intermediate does exactly that! This class will build on the Burlesque essentials of concept, character and choreography in a class that uses advanced peeling techniques, props (including chair and fan dance) and troupe work honed in the Improvers class. A fun-filled class that concentrates on individual and group performance techniques and works on developing acting, as well as dance and peeling skills. We advise that dancers for this class have had some previous experience in Burlesque, so they are able to focus on advancing their skills and performance quality.

Please wear comfortable clothing and block heels or shoes you are comfortable dancing in.

This class will be participating in our annual Christmas show!

Meet the Teachers

Academy of Burlesque and Cabaret

Academy of Burlesque & Cabaret (ABC) has been delivering classes and workshops in burlesque, showgirl and cabaret styles at Dance Base since 2005.

The creative team behind ABC, Gypsy Charms (whose PhD subject is striptease) and Viva Misadventure (a former showgirl) have been credited with leading the burlesque revolution in Scotland.

Their classes and workshops focus on the performance aspect of these styles, with an emphasis on drama as well as dance. ABC choreography for burlesque and striptease artists, deliver masterclasses in burlesque/ striptease styles across Europe, and manage the French Fling Showgirl/cancan troupe. They also run hen parties through both ABC and their Charm School brand.
