Journey to the heart of Bollywood. This dynamic dance is a fusion of styles like Indian folk dance, Kathak, and Bhangra, with a splash of western influence from hip hop, belly dance and other modern styles. It has its own unique flavour, is entertaining, colourful, energetic and the rules are – there are no rules!
 
This class will be participating in the Dance Base Christmas Shows on the evening of either Monday 11th or Tuesday 12th December, and will be working on a routine for this performance throughout the Autumn term. Participating in the show is optional – you do not need to perform to come and enjoy the class.

Meet the Teachers

Rajani Ravikumar

Rajani, a professional dance artist is originally from Chennai, India. She started learning Bharatnatyam at the age of 4. She danced professionally in a reputable Indian dance company for 8 years, performing and teaching various forms of dance. She has also participated and won multiple reality dance competitions in India. She was involved in the creation of a Bollywood dance tutorial for Scottish TV (STV Dance Appeal) in Glasgow and performed with the Edinburgh Bhangra Group at the Edinburgh Mela 2013. She was also an artist coordinator for the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo 2015 auditioning 30 local dancers, training them and danced alongside 120 Bollywood dancers. She recently attended the civic reception with the Lord Provost of Edinburgh for the launch of UK-India Cultural Year 2017. She is currently training in Kathak. She is very passionate about teaching and sharing the joy of dancing.

How to prepare

Wear comfortable clothing and footwear. Don’t forget to bring your bottle of water!

As we move into the colder months of our changeable Scottish weather, please wear layers to the class to keep sufficiently warm during, as we are still continuing to ensure ventilation in our studios.
