Teacher: Moyra Banks

A Middle-Eastern style known for fluid hip movements, torso isolations, and graceful arm work, Belly Dance emphasises musicality, expression, and refined technique.

At Dance Base, our All Levels Belly Dance Class incorporates dance styles from across Egypt and the surrounding regions. Some weeks we will explore the elegance of classic Belly Dance and some weeks we will delve into stronger folkloric styles or fast and funky street styles. Each class will teach you a range of movements so you are in control and can choose how much embellishment you want to add to make it your own. A chance to keep fit and active by shaking your shimmy!

Please wear comfortable clothing and trainers. Don’t forget to bring your bottle of water!

This class will be participating in our annual Christmas show!

Meet the Teachers

Moyra Banks

Moyra is an Edinburgh based dancer and teacher who is passionate about sharing her love of Egyptian dance. She takes inspiration for her performances and classes from her many trips to Egypt.

Her classes are fun, relaxed and informative for those who wish to know more about Belly Dance.

How to prepare

Wear comfortable clothing.

Hip scarves are encouraged but not required. Speak with the teacher about where to buy one if you are interested in dancing with one.

Participants usually dance in their bare feet, but soft dance shoes, such as ballet or jazz shoes may be acceptable also.

As we move into the colder months of our changeable Scottish weather. Please wear layers to the class to keep sufficiently warm, as we are still continuing to ensure ventilation.
