David Hughes Dance

Residency 15-19 September
David Hughes Dance
During this residency DHD will focus on preparations for their autumn 2014 triple bill tour.
The company had been invited to Israel in autumn 2014 to mount and extend 'Rikud', a work originally created on London Contemporary Dance Theatre by choreographers Liat Dror and Nir Ben Gal. Unfortunately, due to the recent conflict there, this project has been postponed and its place in the triple-bill will be taken by a new work by Hughes inspired by Bavarian Folklore.

The other works include a revival of '4:Freeze-Frame' (Dancebase co-commission 2005) by Rafael Bonachela (Sydney Dance) and 'Soft Centre' by seminal Australian choreographer Lucy Guerin. 'Soft Centre' is a duet originally created in 1998 on the legendary ballet icon Mikhail Baryshnikov, who was 51 when he performed it. In respect of this, and shunning the norm, two dancers in their forties will perform this highly technical piece. Lucy Guerin was commissioned to make Soft Centre by The White Oak Dance Project in New York - it was only performed a handful of times and has never been performed since. DHD has been working in partnership with Lucy Guerin Inc (Melbourne) to re-imagine the work.

Class: Tuesday 16 September
The morning will begin with a stretch, leading to gentle exercises and movement across the floor. Class will feature movement from RIKUD and other DHD repertoire.
