Conflux: Exploring aerial work in a theatrical context

Wednesday 11 - Friday 13 & Sunday 15 May, 10.00-17.00

Reach new levels of theatrical performance using aerial work in conjunction with other disciplines over a four-day professional development residency with choreographer and director, Vicki Amedume.

Develop your idea for performance using silks, hoop, trapeze and rope alongside fellow artists with the support of one of the UK’s leading aerialists. Vicki will work with you to help you create individual theatrical performances from your existing aerial skills.

At the end of the residency, give your work a lift by trying out your ideas in front of an audience. Participants will perform to a supportive public audience at Conflux’s physical theatre scratch night, PITCH, at Dance Base on the final afternoon of the residency.

This professional development residency is aimed at emerging and established artists have previous aerial experience. Please note that this is not a skills based residency but an opportunity for aerialists to apply their skills in a broader theatrical context.

Vicki Amedume is an internationally trained aerialist who uses personal stories to create multidisciplinary work with circus at its heart. Vicki is the Artistic Director of Upswing and has worked throughout the UK and internationally in many capacities with companies including the National Theatre and the National Theatre of Scotland.

Conflux runs projects to develop street arts, physical theatre and circus in Scotland. We work with artists, performance companies and educators at all levels of experience.

PITCH – A day of physical theatre scratch performances

Conflux’s quarterly scratch night expands to host an all-day line up of performance at Dance Base and on the Grassmarket. Emerging and established artists try out new ideas and works-in-progress in front of an audience.

A day of newly made theatre for artists, companies, producers, venues and anyone else interested in the physical performance community



Free, family friendly performance all afternoon on the Grassmarket.

Waggle Dance returns to Scotland! This swarm of super friendly bees are in search for a new home and their Queen. Created by Eggmen & Boom Booms, this walkabout act to get you buzzing incorporates physical theatre, improvisation, clowning, dance and live music. Waggle Dance explores our relationship with nature, how we interact with each other and the world around us.

Also on the Grassmarket, three emerging companies from across the UK showcase their new street theatre performances with the support of Tmesis and Conflux.

PITCH’s outdoor programme is supported by Greater Grassmarket.
