Cathy has been involved in teaching people to ceilidh dance since the mid-90s and has been playing in a dance bands for over 30 years. She currently play with Scotland’s top all-women dance band, The Belle Star Ceilidh Band. Their musical influences include Scottish, klesmer, and American bluegrass and old time. They regularly play for private and public events (bellestarband.co.uk). She also plays in a three/four piece band with husband Eric, Jackie Adams and Rebecca Brown. They have had various names for this line up including their most recent manifestation as 'Pussy Scottische' – an homage to the controversially imprisoned Russian band, Pussy Riot (“our only crime is against music!”). They play regularly at various venues including public gigs at the Ghillie Dhu.
Cathy also enjoys writing music for family and friends. She’s married to Eric and they have 2 adult children, one of whom is also a musician. Eric and Cathy regularly attend RSCDS classes with the Dundedin Dancers to hone their Scottish Country Dance skills and enjoy all types of dance. She works as a nurse for NHS Lothian; currently as a Public Health Practitioner
Eric has been a ceilidh dance caller since the early 1980s. Since then,he has worked with some of the major dance bands in Scotland.
Eric has traveled abroad as a country dance demonstrator to Germany,Spain, Belgium Sicily, Hungary and Czechoslovakia. Since leaving the BBC in 1992 after 20 years service, Eric trained and worked in Further Education and as a freelance musician. He is married to Cathy and they have 2 adult children.
He strives to make the dance classes fun and informative and to meet the needs of all levels of dancer.
