OPEN CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: LIVE PERFORMANCE *CLOSED*

Dance Base’s termly showcasing event this autumn will be curated by Dance Base’s Programmes Manager, Helen McIntosh in collaboration with Associate Artist, Claricia Parinussa. With ID.Y Fest, we aim to present a day-long event that celebrates identity, difference and connection; challenging perceptions through opening conversations and empowering individuals through movement.

“As for my identity, I’ll take care of that myself” Edouard Glissant, For Opacity

Taking place throughout the building on Saturday 13 October the day will include live performance, DJ’s, workshops, film, discussion and more. Full details to be announced soon – make sure you get the date in the diary!

We are now inviting proposals for performance works exploring themes of identity intersecting with race, gender and/or disability; from artists whose practice is rooted in any form of dance; movement, physical theatre, performance, live art or interdisciplinary work.

We particularly welcome submissions from artists identifying as People of Colour (POC) / Black and/or Ethnic Minority (BAME), LGBTQIA; Queer, Trans, Intersex POC (QTIPOC) and Disabled.

The live performance element of the event will happen between 17.00-19.00, and we are looking for 3-4 works that will be presented between these times. Locations may include studio 3, studio 4, the balcony, the garden, or foyer areas. (You can get more information about the spaces on our website: www.dancebase.co.uk/hires/studios/  or take the virtual tour www.dancebase.co.uk/hires/virtual-tour-137, if you would like to visit the space, let us know and we can arrange this).

Work can be between 15mins and 2 hours, including excerpts, full-length or works in progress and duration work. Work needs to be light on its feet and have little or no technical requirements.

There will be a financial contribution of £100, along with free rehearsal space at Dance Base on the lead up to the event. Artists will also be offered mentoring support, advice and feedback from Head of Catalyst Bush Hartshorn and / or Artistic Director Morag Deyes where possible.

The performance will be photographed professionally, and the images will be made available to the artists at no cost.

If you have any questions, or wish to discuss any elements of the event before applying, please email helen@dancebase.co.uk and we will get back to you.

Applications will be selected on three basic criteria:

1.            Quality of work
2.            How proposals sit in the context of the aims of the festival
3.            Where we envisage the impact to the artists will be most valuable
