Carnival Odyssey (working title) - New Work

Project X Dance CIC

During this residency, Mele Broomes and Ashanti Harris will collaborate on the development of our new production for young audiences Carnival Odyssey (working title).

Carnival Odyssey will be a visceral promenade dance work, for young audiences, featuring sculptural costumes and live music, which will transport audiences across worlds.

Combining Afro-futurist influences and taking inspiration from the Caribbean Carnival canon and also the Jamaican writer and academic Slyvia Winters play Maskarade, this new work will centre the black experience within the diaspora, exploring themes of identity and migration.

The work will incorporate a Sci-Fi element of moving and migrating across worlds, with aesthetics of playing with light and projections, and exploring themes of identity.

Company Class | Tuesday 28 January & 3 March| 10:00- 11:30

A member of Project X will deliver either a Traditional or African and Caribbean Diasporic dance class.
