Katrina McPherson is a Dance Base Associate Artist
Solo film project
Katrina McPherson
Continuing a process she started during two residencies in Dance Base late in 2019, Katrina will further develop a new solo film work that builds on her on-going interest in the fluid potential of the embodied camera, and reflects a tradition of women artists featuring their own bodies – and stories – in their screen-based work. The project is based on a collection of photographs of Katrina’s German maternal grandmother, Luise Langenheim geb. Kruger - a war refugee mother-of two – who Katrina never met. The artist will create an original single screendance work, performing for the camera a choreography of gestures, stances, and imagined movements - forming a kind of ‘embodied DNA’ – that pose questions of identity, physical and emotional legacy.
