Lewis Normand

Building on my last residency at Dance Base and then Dance North, I will dive deeper into the work. Using the traditional stories of the Selkie as a base, the work uses narrative, landscape and character as means of anchoring and shaping the dance.

Referring to the story and movement qualities of the natural landscape I want to refine and balance the work to give a sense of place. I hope to engage an audience with a style that draws from pure movement and narrative, giving space for music and dance to be beautiful in their own right.

Company Class | Thursdays 14 & 21 Nov | 10.00 – 11.30

This professional level class is energetic and fast-paced. Using the foundations of Cunningham and Release techniques, it includes floor-based work as well as standing and traveling movement. Principals of alignment, flow, weight and expansiveness play out across the physical material. With the aim to facilitate a space for rigorous training, as well as personal curiosities, Lewis encourages a “do what you need’ atmosphere.

Company Showing | Friday 22 Nov | 17.00
