Sari Palmgren

In the residency I am researching new work – a quartet for two dancers and two musicians. Licking is the physical act in the piece. Licking is an animalistic movement, used for drinking, eating, washing, communicating and sexual interraction. The piece reflects the limits of animalism and humanity. Licking is also a selfish, pleasure-enhancing act. With licking we can remove the elements and things of sight. The same way as the current way of life removes the species from the map. In the movement I work with the vertebra. The bone level movement is the level which we have common with all the other vertebrates. The old structure is meeting new movement. I am also investigating the ways to interact with music. Music for this piece draws from viola da gamba through the old music, and crosses to the next level with new electronic music.

Company class
Tuesday 29 September & 6 October | 10.00 – 11.30
In the morning class we will work with different movement tasks and find opposite qualities to grow our
physical potential. We will use improvisation and combine it with set material. We are looking for the
momentum in the movement, new patterns, energy and rhythm.
