Dance Base is currently recruiting for a Bookings & Front of House Assistant.

Role Purpose

The post holder is responsible for: presenting the public face of Dance Base and for ensuring that all users of the building and of Dance Base resources receive welcoming, friendly and efficient service, in line with Dance Base Customer Commitment and Front of House policies and procedures.

The post is responsible to: Bookings & Front of House Manager and, by proxy, to the Bookings & Front of House Deputy Managers.

Key Responsibilities

To work on a rota basis as part of a team of Booking & Front of House Assistants to:

  • Welcome all visitors to the building, sign them in and direct them within the building as required
  • Assist with Dance Base fire safety and evacuation procedures
  • Assist with Dance Base security procedures
  • Be the first point of call for all phone and email queries and respond as required.
  • Respond to and/or direct any email and answerphone messages to other staff as appropriate
  • Make bookings using the computerised box office systems for all classes, workshops and events
  • Receive and process cash, cheque and card payments as appropriate
  • Send out information and brochures as required
  • Process any box office reports as requested by the Bookings & Front of House Manager
  • Assist in ensuring that all areas of the building, including changing rooms, are in good repair, clean and clear of unnecessary items, tidy and safe for use throughout the day/evening and report any issues
  • Assist with other Bookings & Front of House duties as required such as studio preparation.
  • Be a part of the Festival Fringe bookings team

Other duties include

  • To attend briefings, planning and reporting meetings as required
  • To abide by the terms of Dance Base’s Health and Safety, Equal Opportunities and Disability Equalities policies at all times
  • To undertake any other duties that may reasonably be required of the Bookings & Front of House Assistant by the Bookings & Front of House Manager

Person Specification

Essential requirements:

  • Reservations/box office/booking systems experience or equivalent
  • Proven ability to deliver and maintain a high standard of customer care
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Cash handling experience
  • Experience of working in a customer focused environment
  • Able to work on a shift basis, including evenings and weekends
  • Able to work well as part of a team

Desirable attributes:

  • Knowledge of and interest in dance and the arts
  • Knowledge of MINDBODY bookings system

Terms and conditions:

Salary :                       £7.85 per hour 

Contract:                   Casual. Two weeks’ notice of termination by the employee or employer.

Holidays:                   Payment for holiday time will be made quarterly.

Working hours:         Hours worked on a rota basis between 7.30am and 10.00pm Monday to Saturday, and occasional Sundays. The majority of hours will be worked during Dance Base term time with few/no hours during out of term/holiday periods (Easter, summer and Christmas/New Year).

Place of work:           Dance Base, 14-16 Grassmarket, Edinburgh. Also infrequently at other locations, as agreed with the Bookings & Front of House Manager if required.
