“Here is an amazement—once I was twenty years old and in every motion of my body there was a delicious ease, and in every motion of the green earth there was a hint of paradise, and now I am sixty years old, and it is the same.” ― Mary Oliver, West Wind: Poems and Prose Poems This River is a new interdisciplinary solo performance piece about the journey of aging; the joys, sorrows and surprises therein, based on her original poem of the same name. It synthesizes original text, movement and sound. In this residency Laura will be adding a video backdrop by Ruth Barrie, and further developing the choreography and sound material. Laura has several invisible disabilities that have impacted her ability to dance. She was told by a doctor that she was ‘over the hill’ at 28. She has always felt that she HAD TO DANCE! Now aged 70, she feels she is moving better than ever!
