9-13 March
Glasgow-based street dancer and movement artist Marco Luis Selma Barot joins Dance Base for a week of creative research exploring the physical language of Hip Hop, Afro, and Krump. Known for his expressive freestyle style and theatre-based storytelling, Marco’s work bridges the worlds of street dance and performance art.
During this residency, Marco will investigate how these three styles can interconnect through grounded movement, floorwork, and emotional expression. His focus is on deepening the relationship between groove and narrative. Uncovering new textures and pathways that reflect his evolving voice as a performer.
The residency will also serve as preparation for World’s Evolution, an upcoming hip hop theatre production touring across Scotland with Three60 Company. On the fourth day, Marco will collaborate with mentor Lebe “Kemono”, a Congolese-born artist and musician, to explore storytelling through rhythm and intensity.
Marco’s practice is rooted in community, teaching, and creative exchange. His time at Dance Base will not only develop his own artistry but also contribute to the growing visibility of Scotland’s street dance scene with the purpose of celebrating the diversity, creativity, and cultural depth that define it.
