LYDC Lead Artist Call Out
Deadline: 12:00 (midday) | Thursday 18 June 2026
Dance Base is seeking a Lead Artist to work with Lothian Youth Dance Company (LYDC) from September 2026- August 2027.
Lothian Youth Dance Company (LYDC) is Dance Base’s in-house company for young dancers aged 14-21. Established in 2016 with support from the Leverhume Trust, LYDC is now in its 10th anniversary year and over that time we have worked with hundreds of young people from across Edinburgh and the Lothians.
The LYDC Lead Artist will lead the company dancers in their technical and creative development, nurturing their skills and group cohesion over the course of the year. They will ensure that the needs and experiences of the young people are centred and will provide them with support, guidance, and feedback throughout the year.
Fees and conditions
The Lead Artist will be contracted at our lead artist day rate (project delivery) of £244 for monthly sessions, totalling £2,440 for 10 monthly sessions. Additional activities will be agreed separately as required (e.g., to attend a meeting; to support a technical rehearsal; to chaperone for a day-long performance trip).
Limited expenses of up to £15/ session are available for the Lead Artist to travel to Dance Base each month. This role is therefore suited to artists based in or around the Scotland’s central belt.
We are recruiting for this post for a one-year term, with delivery from September 2026- August 2027. There will be a mid-term review and the possibility to extend.
