Artist Advisory Group 2026-27 Call Out

Deadline: 11:00 | Wednesday 17 April

As part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring that our dance artist stakeholders are heard in our strategy development and decision-making process design, and to continue the collaborative conversation with the dance community we serve, we are now recruiting four dance artists to join the Dance Base Artist Advisory Group for 2026-27.

The Artist Advisory Group (AAG) brings together Scotland‑based dance artists to help shape Dance Base’s professional programme offer and ensure this genuinely reflects the needs, ambitions, and lived experiences of the dance community across the country. Now in its sixth year, the AAG has become an essential part of how we work: opening up the decision‑making for our professional opportunities, inviting honest reflection, and helping us understand what is working well and where we can grow.

This is a paid opportunity for artists working in and with dance in Scotland to play an active role in strengthening the national dance landscape. It also offers a unique professional development pathway, giving members hands‑on leadership experience within Scotland’s National Centre for Dance. Through this role, artists gain insight into strategic professional programme development and the processes that shape opportunities for dance across the country.

The AAG reflects the breadth and diversity of dance in Scotland, with particular attention to representation across protected characteristics, practices, and perspectives.

Each year, the AAG:

  • Advises on Dance Base’s professional programme development, offering reflections on past and current projects and responding to new proposals across our Professional programme.
  • Supports transparent and equitable decision‑making around opportunities such as residencies and commissions. (Being part of the AAG does not prevent members from applying for Dance Base opportunities.)
  • Champions Dance Base’s work within their communities, sharing opportunities and strengthening connections across Scotland’s dance networks.
  • Develops leadership skills, gaining experience in funding application and distribution processes, collaborative decision‑making, and sector advocacy — skills that support artists to lead confidently within their own practices and the wider cultural landscape.
