Lynn Shaw | Theory of Holes | Residency

Monday 8 - Thursday 11 June

“Theory of Holes” is loosely based on The Diamond Approach which is a exploration into how we often become disconnected from self and the holes/voids that shape our perceptions, beliefs and actions. The concept explores how our unconscious patterns we harbour, play out as defensiveness, avoidance or over achieving (e.g) This can show up as needing value from the outside external world, rather than from within. The journey is to shed parts of our false personality that protects us from getting closer to our true essence. Our essence is often lost unconsciously due to self protection.

As a society it has become more prevalent that people search for approval and recognition from the outside external world. The exploration for the piece aims to challenge this and reveal the value of connecting with self, our shadow side and the power of “honestly” looking within.

The creative process is led by dynamic meditation, inquiry and “Coloured Latifias” which are qualities of consciousness and act as a “map” and guide to creating the work. These qualities activate the areas where we often lose our true essence through conditioning, culture, society and our ego defenses/inner critic.

About Lynn Shaw

Lynn Shaw is a Scottish based dance artist with a passion for working in the field of dance for health & well-being. Lynn originally trained at Edinburgh College, then received a Postgraduate in Community Dance at Auckland University. In 2019 her curiosity for researching the affects of trauma in the body led her to completed an Med in Performing Arts at the Royal Conservatoire in Glasgow, where she created a dance documentary that was screened at film festivals internationally and performing live dance at mental health conferences in the UK, sharing the visceral storytelling of the body.

Her interest lies in sharing the joy of self, by interrogating the parts of us we fear the most. Questioning the internal and external patterns that have often buried our true identity. Lynn’s recent training as a Holistic Counsellor in Florence and Milan using dynamic meditation and inquiry, has given her a greater insight into working with people as a whole, using embodied approaches to stimulate our physical, emotional & spiritual well-being. Using the body and voice as a map to uncover our own raw authentic truth, – (the good, the bad and the messy), we come to a greater sense of inner acceptance and resilience.
