Alan Greig Dance | Within Reach | Residency

Alan Greig Dance | Within Reach | Residency

Monday 13 - Friday 17 April

Written and choreographed by veteran dance artist Alan Greig, Within Reach is a humorous exploration of identity, queer culture, aging, and the cracked glamour of fame. Seamlessly blending eccentric spoken word monologues and crisp choreographed vignettes, the 40-minute dance theatre performance sees Greig skilfully slip between characters as he embodies LGBTQ+ icons Quentin Crisp, Joan Crawford, Bette Davis and Tennessee Williams. With humour, intimacy and physical virtuosity.

The show gives a platform to renowned Scottish dance artist Alan Greig and prioritises his voice as an LGBTQ+ artist interested in storytelling, and as an older dancer (63) who wishes to continue to dance and perform by pushing against the limitations and stereotypes of how an older dancer should move. Within Reach is a lo-fi touring show suitable for theatres, festivals and public buildings and its staging can be adapted to different settings to create a wholly unique and surprising experience for audiences. It has previously been performed in toilets, hallways, staircases, corridors, a hairdresser’s salon and the stage of a traditional theatre. The show invites the host venue to think outside the box about where dance can be performed and provides an opportunity to invigorate non-traditional performance spaces.
