TS CREW is made up of a group of Hong Kong artists with different artistic backgrounds, includes contemporary dance, martial arts tricking, traditional lion & dragon dance and capoeira. In this residency, we will modify our recent work – No Dragon No Lion by getting the inspirations from culture and community of Edinburgh. No Dragon No Lion is a contemporary twisted of Hong Kong traditional lion dance by extracting the essence of the lion dance and integrate it with beat-boxing, tricking and contemporary dance. During our residency in DanceBase, we will divide the whole piece into different small particles or raw materials. Like doing experiment, we will integrate these small particles with different new elements that we get and learn from the people as well as the vibe in Edinburgh to form some new particles. Finally, we will link up all these new particles to make a “new” No Dragon No Lion.
Made in Hong Kong – No Dragon No Lion | a journey to HOME From 1957-1997, the coat of arms of Hong Kong has a crowned lion, supported by a British Lion and a Chinese Dragon, the lion and dragon supporters show the British and Chinese connections of Hong Kong. But they seems to have vanished in the thin air over the years…. Here we are, without the dragon and lion, where do the Hongkongers belong to? A contemporary twisted of Hong Kong traditional culture – Lion Dance, incorporating Martial Arts, Tricking, Parkour and Contemporary Dance.
