PAST-inuous is a live interactive dance performance, with an international in-person and digital cast which will be touring to Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dundee as part of Creative Scotland’s Touring Fund portfolio in spring 2022. The company will rehearse at Dance Base prior to going out on the first leg of the tour. Created digitally, in collaboration with video artist Lucas Chih-Peng Kao and 11 Palestinian dancers – most third generation refugees – living in both Palestine and the diaspora, including Edinburgh, Berlin, Gaza and Nablus. The work aspires to reflect on the ongoing Palestinian refugee problem created in 1948 by the creation of Israel on Palestinian land and the expulsion of Palestinians across the world. Numbers are now estimated to be 5 million and PAST-inuous explores the bodies of the 11 artists as living archives. The piece attempts to dig into these archives to find connections between the artists daily gestures in the now and the gestures of their expelled families in the past. Through this, we seek to address the future of the Palestinian refugee cause and its connection to the current global refugee condition.
