K Biff Nicholson + Independent Arts Project | We Dream Here | Residency

K Biff Nicholson + Independent Arts Project | We Dream Here | Residency

24-28 November

We Dream Here. We have always dreamed here. Here, we party, rest, move, grieve, and take a breath.

What if, in this time of government and media hostility and diminishing futures for trans folks, disabled folks, we create a space for us to dream collectively about multiple expansive futures?

Kirsty Biff Nicolson (lead artist) invites artists to co-create We Dream Here; a NeuroQueer Cabaret hosted by an ensemble of deliciously deviant neuroqueer performers and artists. Following an initial stage of research and development in 2024, collaborators will return for a further development residency. We will research how we can co-create interdisciplinary ensemble rituals/acts that weave throughout a cabaret, to create an immersive event. We will also develop how our intersecting access needs and access “clashes” can be embraced and inform all stages of creation to performance.

About the Artist

K Biff Nicolson a neuroqueer*, slow, anti-capitalist human living in Leith. Their interdisciplinary practice spans drag, clown, voice, play, performance making, facilitation, and access support. Biff has over 15 years of experience collaborating with learning-disabled, neurodivergent, and disabled artists in their creative processes.

Working with artists at Lung Ha, Biff co-created the Creative Space programme, developing artist-led ways of exploring creative practice online. Biff loves to make DIY drag and clown work, and have devised, hosted, and programmed queer cabarets on shoe-string budgets, working with Dive Queer Part, Clown Cabaret Scotland, Surge, and as one half of the anarchic drag-clown duo Oasissy. Biff is an experienced facilitator; they have facilitated drag workshops for Shutup and King, performances with Garvald Edinburgh and Anatomy, and co-created play spaces for Independent Arts Projects. Biff is passionate about pleasure, play and neuro-queering* spaces by and with dissenters and deliciously deviant performers.

*Engaging in practices intended to undo and subvert one’s own cultural conditioning and one’s ingrained habits of neuro-normative and heteronormative performance, aiming to reclaim one’s capacity to give more full expression to one’s uniquely weird potentials and inclinations. – Nik Walker, PHD
