About Claire Pencak

Claire is a dance artist based in the Scottish Borders. She trained in contemporary dance and choreography at the Laban Centre, London and then continued her dance training informally with Francoise and Dominique Dupuy (France) and Russell Dumas (Australia). Living in this time of ecological and political derangement, Claire is asking how dance and somatic movement practices might offer a quiet but fierce resistance to the politics of growth economics and materialism and suggest different ways to connect—to ourselves, to others and to the more-than-human world. What kind of dances might be made and experienced at this time of loss—loss of species, loss of habitats and loss of lifeways—that offer hope-orientated and empathetic practices, nourish ecological relationship and support us to dwell more sensitively with the earth.
