A solo performance research born out of the artist’s relationship to a very particular dress. Titled, Dearly Beloved the solo flirts between installation, physical theatre and dance. Dearly Beloved is a journey of metamorphosis, interlaced images, stories and physical scores. The research celebrates multiplicity and aims to engender a sense of alchemy in performance. This stage of development invites experienced crafter of her own Dance Theatre work, Yolande Snaith to join as outside eye and collaborator.

About Maya Bodiley

Maya is a Glasgow based independent dance artist, performer, maker and teacher.

From Devon, Maya met her physical expressive self through her practical and explorative relationship to her rural environment. She received a BA in Contemporary Dance, through The University of Chichester and Escola Superior de Dansa, studying across the UK and Portugal. After working within disability-led arts initiatives and various performance projects in her early career, Maya furthered her studies in 2023, gaining a Distinction level MA in Dance Performance in affiliation NSCD and Scottish Dance Theatre. Maya continues to work for the company professionally alongside collaborating with visual artists, musicians and filmmakers as well as dance practitioners around Scotland such as Aya Kobayoshi, Tess Letham and Katrina McPherson. Maya believes in a holistic approach to creative practice that can equally be imaginatively ambitious, critical, fantastical and receptive to the human experience.

About Yolande

Yolande Snaith is an interdisciplinary artist and educator, exploring connections between movement and dance, image making, video, writing and spoken word. Her training in visual art, dance and theatre during the late 1970’s and early 1980’s laid the foundations for a lengthy career as an internationally recognized dance theatre artist and dance professor at the University of California San Diego. Since her decision to leave academia and return to the UK in 2023, Yolande now focusses on her creative practices as an independent artist, developing new pathways and territories within both her artistic work, and her teaching methodologies.
