We are emerging contemporary performance-makers based in Glasgow. During this residency, we will be working on Radical Touch, an on-going movement-research and performance-duet which explores the touch practices of girl/womanhood, mothering, and female friendship in order to change the way we communally care for each other.

*We are defining ‘female’ as a transcending phenomenon which is not defined by a person’s biology, but instead focuses on the sensorial and experiential aspects of femininity and its practices. We are considering acts of mothering as genderless.

Looking outside and seeing the violent disregard and carelessness of everyday touch, the alienation and consequential aggression caused by insufficient and artificial forms of online connection in the digital generation, the intergenerational loneliness crisis, and the heightened fear of intimacy since the pandemic- it’s evident that we need to relearn how to care collectively, how to touch radically. Our aim is to create a space where platonic yet passionate touch and care can exist fully and grow unashamedly.

We are specifically interested in:

(1) The duet of a body next to a body and/or with the memory of a body- exploring the fear of never feeling close enough.

(2) The duet of a body living inside a body- drawing inspiration from images of pregnancy and mothering, viewing the body as a host-body, as both archive and archivist.

We will share our findings as a short performance followed by a class open to all levels and experiences of movement, of all abilities and of any age (with a special invitation to people aged +50). The class explores ideas of carrying and surrendering weight and works with real and imagined memories of closeness. The explorations will be image/sensation-led rather than by specific choreography.
To ensure the care of all participants during this class, there is no obligation or expectation to touch. There will always be non-touch possibilities.
