This residency will support further development of an ambitious new devised performance work which asks: who gets a seat at the table (and who notices who doesn’t)? And, once we’re there, what shall we do – talk, eat, plan, lay our cards out, get on it and dance, turn it upside down…
Building upon the research from our residency at Dance Base last year, we will further explore the themes, ideas and artistic concepts and delve deeper into developing the material for the work.
During the residency we will research and gather various modes of using text in the work, including spoken word, and how to embed BSL. We will discover how a company of young artists from Lyra will contribute to the creation of the work and in collaboration with the creative team will begin to evolve the specific materialistic language; physical, textual, musical, and imagistic.

Join Christine with Curious Seed and Lung Ha company members in their warm up for the day. Supported with live music, we will begin by bringing awareness to our breath and senses whilst exploring simple functional movement. Using guided improvisational scores and tasks we will tune into ourselves and others to find our way into dancing together.

After class, please join us for an Open Table discussion event – all are welcome, whether you have attended the class or not. This will be a facilitated creative conversation, where we will gather individual and collective insights into some of the themes and artistic starting points for the work. Refreshments will be provided.

Lyra is a performing arts organisation based in Greater Craigmillar (Edinburgh) that makes world-class performances and creative projects for, by and with children and teenagers. We make shows, deliver workshops, run a venue and provide pastoral care.
