Throughout the year Dance Base offer residencies to professional dance artists, choreographers and companies to develop their work. We strive to support artists at each stage of their career and welcome applications for projects at all levels.
Our residency programme is structured around three terms - Spring, Summer and Autumn – with space provided on a weekly basis, Monday – Friday, in two of our studio spaces. We offer a mixture of funded and unfunded residency weeks with a total fund of £15,000 available across each financial year.
Applications are made three times a year through an open call process. All applications will be read by the Dance Base Artistic Director Morag Deyes and members of the Artist Advisory Group – a group of artists who represent the diverse array of voices and lived experiences that make up the Scottish dance sector. The decision of who the residency weeks are allocated to will be based on who the group believe will:
For each residency week Dance Base provides:

Each term a number of weeks space will be allocated to the Dance Base Associate Artists, DEBS and Fringe Festival artists as part of their agreement with Dance Base. All other weeks will be allocated by the Artistic Director and Artist Advisory Group.
Please note that residencies are not open to those currently in full-time education or training. If you would like to discuss your eligibility please contact Kirsty Somerville, Programmes Manager, kirsty@dancebase.co.uk
How to apply:
Due to the current lockdown restrictions in Scotland we have made the decision to pause our call out for applications for the Summer term. This is to ensure we can honour our commitment to the Spring residency artists and reschedule weeks as required. We hope to reopen our call out once measures lift and will make an announcement on our website and social media when this is possible.
If you have any questions, or if you have already completed your application and would like to discuss how to move forward, please contact Kirsty Somerville, Programmes Manager, kirsty@dancebase.co.uk
