Call out for performance night on Sat 2 Nov at Dance Base

Dance Base Associate Artist, Claricia Parinussa, has been invited to curate our Autumn showcase. We are so happy that she has accepted and look forward to experiencing her choices.

Claricia Parinussa is inviting ideas for new or existing performance works to be presented as part of a mixed performance programme at Dance Base on Saturday 2 November. Proposals are welcomed from artists with any practice relating to movement, dance, live art, performance art, or working choreographically with any artform including sound, video and writing.

How do we take up space- inside the body and in a place?

When do we compromise this space and our voice?

What do we need to say. How do we need to be remembered?

You can be at any stage in your career and any background; whether you have engaged with Dance Base before or if you have never been in the building. Applications are particularly welcome from artists who identify as Queer/Trans Person of Colour (QTPOC), Black, or POC.

To apply please send your idea; what you hope to communicate, and why this is important to you to say, now. It can be about a worldwide issue or it might just be; I really need to dance and I would like you to witness and this is why.

You can submit an idea for;

  • a performance between 3 and 30minutes
  • a durational performance
  • a performance installation
  • a live sound or DJ set
  • or video work

3-5 artists or collaborations will be selected to show work, receiving:

  • studio space where available
  • mentoring and support where available from Dance Base Head of Catalyst, Bush Hartshorn or Claricia Parinussa
  • marketing support
  • technical support on the day with a simple technical set up (specs can be requested during applications)
  • an honorarium of £100

We are looking for proposals which are;

Clear in outlining the idea for the performance and where this has come from, giving background to you, your research or interests; and how performing as part of this showcase would impact on you and your development as an artist. Please also indicate what support you may seek in terms of studio space, and/or mentoring.

To apply please send your proposal or idea in any format of:

  • written (no longer than 1 page of A4)
  • audio recording
  • or video, (vocal or in BSL/SSL) of 3 minutes or less

and attach or send a download link to;
