PRIME: Carry On Dancing

In October 2016, we were delighted to see PRIME undertake their second national tour, alongside other elder companies.

Performing a new work that premiered at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August, Carry on Dancing is a piece created by Steinvor Palsson. Set to the original recordings of memorable songs from the 20s and 30s, which were sung by the legendary Marlene Dietrich, PRIME will be staged alongside Quicksilver from Citymoves Dance Agency and the Eden Court performance group for older dancers, as part of Luminate: Scotland’s creative ageing festival.

Poignant, funny and eclectic, these classic songs are interpreted through movement, dance and occasional text by an extraordinary ensemble of nine women in their sixties and beyond. Beautifully lit and costumed by Jeanine Byrne, the piece evokes a bygone era of glamour, mystery, seduction and dark humour.

Carry On Dancing is a personal tribute to him and to the courageous, powerful and completely remarkable women who are PRIME. Alongside this, PRIME will also perform a new hip hop piece Auld's Cool, choreographed especially for the company by Ashley Jack.
