About Lothian Youth Dance Company
Lothian Youth Dance Company offers talented dancers aged 14 to 19 from Edinburgh and the Lothians the opportunity to broaden their contemporary dance and performance experience as part of a nationally touring dance company.
LYDC meets one Sunday each month in Dance Base for day-long sessions where they develop their contemporary dance technique and creative dance skills, learn more about working together as a company and rehearse for upcoming performances.
The group also meet for several week-long intensives in April, July and October to create new choreography and work on other dance skills more intensively with different choreographers and dance tutors.
'At LYDC there is a high standard and it feels professional - however it's not scary or elitist.
It has helped me develop more confidence and improve my dancing in other styles too.
It is fun and I've made good friends.'
The Story So Far
LYDC have been extremely busy in 2017. So far, Steinvor Palsson and Tony Mills have both created new pieces of choreography on the company and in October the group will be working with Lewis Normand. LYDC have performed in various venues and festivals around Scotland this year including the Dundee Dance Festival in the Dundee Rep Theatre, Perth Concert Hall’s Great Big Dance Show and a sell-out run in Dance Base’s Fringe Festival.
As LYDC members, the dancers have also been able to attend dance performances by Jasmin Vardimon Company and James Wilton Dance. Next up, our dancers will be attending a workshop and performance by Rambert when this internationally renowned company visits Edinburgh in October.
If you are a young dancer aged 14 – 19 years and this sounds like the kind of thing you’d like to be involved in, why not audition for our 2018 company?
2017 Auditions are now closed.
Please feel free to email email@example.com to register your interest in upcoming auditions or if you have any questions.
The cost to join LYDC in 2018 is yet to be decided. It will likely be similar to the cost for 2017 company members which was £300.00, payable in full at the start of the year or in instalments. We also have means-tested bursary places available.
LYDC are keen to hear about any upcoming opportunities which might be open to them. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org with information.
