Dance Base runs holiday schools annually in April (Easter School) and July (Summer School and Summer Dance Intensive), offering week-long creative holiday programmes for young dancers.
Easter School and Summer School are aimed at children aged 7 – 9 and 10 – 12 years and week-long courses which run 10.00-17.00 daily. These always involve a dance element which is mixed with a number of other activities. In past years these activities have included animation, art, parkour, circus skills and music-making. Easter and Summer School are led by qualified and highly experienced tutors who lead the children through the different elements and interweave these to create a fun, informal performance for families on the final afternoon. No previous dance experience is required.
The Summer Dance Intensive is a programme which gives dancers aged 13 – 19 years the opportunity to spend a week getting to know other young dancers who share their interests, developing their technique and learning from professionally trained dancers and teachers. Created in 2015, two dance styles are selected each year and are both explored in-depth during daily two-hour workshops over the course of a week. Previously, styles have included hip hop, jazz and contemporary and dancers have the option of attending one or both sets of workshops. The Friday sessions usually include an informal sharing of work with family and friends.
Previous experience in the selected dance styles is required.
