These are tough times, but we’re strong and with your help we will come through this.
Although officially starting in May, I joined Dance Base last week to support the incredible team.
My first act as Chief Executive felt like one of the toughest points of my career – closing the building and sending the few staff remaining to the safety of their homes.
But make no mistake, we are still open. As with so many organisations we’re working from our kitchen tables and cubby holes, linked by video, audio, messaging and email.
We’ve been a little quiet over the last couple of weeks, just coping with everything that’s happened to all of us at lightning speed. I’m happy to say that this will now start to change.
Over the coming weeks and months we’ll be providing information and advice for people working in dance in Scotland, signposting some great dance resources for professionals and amateurs alike, providing references to artists applying for the Creative Scotland Bridging Bursary, and finding ways to deliver a dance experience online for those of you who find a trip to the Grassmarket a joyful part of your routine.
This isn’t going to be easy. Along with so many organisations and individuals our established ways of earning income and delivering services have been upended, almost overnight. There will be some very difficult decisions for us to make very soon.
But fundamentally we’re a strong organisation. We’ve a clear and beautiful mission to support the potential for dance in everyone, we have an incredible team, and most importantly we have a community of people who love dance and love Dance Base.
We’re going to need your help over the coming months. We will give those who are able the chance to contribute financially to important parts of our work, but we will also offer other ways that people can show their support. I’ll be in touch again about this, and you’ll also be hearing from our Artistic Director Morag Deyes and other members of our team.
In the meantime, please follow us through social media (Twitter, Facebook and Instagram) or feel free to drop me a line directly at firstname.lastname@example.org
Please stay safe and look after each other in this very difficult time.
