Lineup
LYDC- ‘We and Everybody Else’ choreographed by Molly Scott Danter
All of us and you too: in a dance of time and worlds and memory and me and you and us.
PRIME- ‘Toeing the line?’ By Steinvor Palsson
Set to music from the Concerti Grossi, op.3 by Friedrich Handel, Toeing the Line? responds to our ever-changing times, shifting between set choreography and improvised movement phrases created by the company.
LYDC- ‘The Waiting Room’, choreographed by Emma Smith and Katie Miller
A shifting world of waiting; waiting rooms, waiting tables, wait your turn. This heavily musical, dynamic piece takes inspiration from Ohad Nahrain’s ‘Echad Mi Yodea’, and was choreographed in collaboration with the dancers.
About LYDC
LYDC is our in-house youth dance company. The company is made up of 12 talented young people, aged 14-21, from Edinburgh and the Lothians. Joining us for a full academic year, the dancers work with professional choreographers and dance artists, to train, create, and perform across Scotland. LYDC aims to give young people opportunities to nurture their creative voices, improve their confidence, and develop new skills in contemporary dance.
This year’s company have worked with Edinburgh International Festival/ Akram Khan Company, Katie Miller, Emma Smith, Molly Scott Danter, and Daniel Navarro Lorenzo, and have performed at Dance Live (Aberdeen), YDance Destinations (Inverness), and Dance Base’s Christmas Show.
About PRIME
PRIME is Dance Base’s resident dance company for those aged over 60. Created in 2015 by Morag Deyes, former Artistic Director of Dance Base, the company was born from the growing need and desire from older dancers to see themselves more widely represented on stage. Now led by Artistic Director Steinvor Palsson, the company is committed to challenging preconceptions around notions of age and ability, and are driven to help establish a culture of dance in Scotland that is truly equal and representative of its population. The company currently has 13 members aged between 64 and 80 years old and present their work across Scotland each year.
