Introducing... MultiStory

Live performance is returning this August and we’re thrilled to be collaborating with Gilded Balloon, ZOO and the Traverse Theatre to create MultiStory, a brand-new outdoor performance space underneath Edinburgh Castle at the iconic Castle Terrace Car Park.

This partnership will see comedy, theatre, dance, music, family shows and more on stage throughout the day from 6-30 August along with food and drink stalls from some amazing local companies.

We’re so grateful to City of Edinburgh Council, the Scottish Government and Event Scotland for supporting this safe and welcoming venue for 2021.

Jim Hollington, Chief Executive of Dance Base Scotland said: This has been the toughest of times, but a crisis can also bring people together. At Dance Base we see the spirit of collaboration this year, and are building relationships that will not only deliver festivals for the people of Edinburgh in 2021 but will help reshape and rebuild the festivals over the coming years. With vital support from the City of Edinburgh Council, we’re very excited about the potential of Multistory at Castle Terrace Car Park. Working with Edinburgh institutions Traverse and Gilded Balloon alongside Zoo Venues, our programme will be eclectic, surprising and fun.

Morag Deyes, Artistic Director of Dance Base said: Between our four organisations, we have a rich history of bringing the best artists and their shows to the festival and this partnership allows us to continue this work in 2021, creating opportunities for artists and event professionals who have endured such a difficult year. We’re working hard to develop a programme for everyone to enjoy and are looking forward to welcoming audiences of all ages to experience live performances again.

From 12-26 August Dance Base will also be opening its Grassmarket studios with bespoke installations and digital experiences made by leading dance artists alongside a programme of entertaining shows for children and families. It will also present a digital dance channel, as part of ZOO TV, featuring Iconnotations …a live stream and on demand performance to music by Peter Maxwell Davies performed by Matthew Hawkins & Red Note Ensemble at Greyfriars Kirk as part of Made in Scotland.

Look out for further announcements! Tickets for all Dance Base Festival events go on sale 15 July.
