Dance Base welcomes Jim Hollington as new Chief Executive

Jim Hollington

Dance Base is pleased to welcome Jim Hollington as its new Chief Executive, starting from May 2020.

Jim comes to the organisation with a depth of arts understanding, and currently runs an arts and culture consultancy. He previously worked as Head of External Affairs at Edinburgh International Festival, and in Directorial roles for the British Council. In January, he was appointed Chair of the Board of Creative Edinburgh.

He brings an expertise in cultural strategy to Dance Base and has an outstanding record of securing funding for artists and arts organisations.

On confirmation of his appointment, Jim Hollington said:

'I’m delighted to be joining Dance Base in May. From my time working in Europe and Asia with the British Council, I know the power dance has to transcend language and cultural barriers and also the reputation Dance Base itself has internationally. From my time here in Scotland I know how loved the organisation is by professional dancers and the public alike.

'The organisation’s vision is beautiful and important – encouraging and celebrating the potential for dance in everyone. As the National Centre for Dance, I really look forward to working with Artistic Director Morag Deyes and the whole team to make sure we deliver this vision not just in Edinburgh, but across Scotland and internationally.'

Welcoming Jim to the organisation, Chair of the Dance Base Board, Ed Crozier, said:

‘Speaking on behalf of everyone on the Board of Directors, we are delighted to have secured the services of Jim Hollington for the role of Chief Executive. His experience, track record and proven transferable skill set, allied to leadership capability will undoubtedly take Dance Base forward in towards its next exciting phase of growth – both for the local, national and international development of the professional dance sector, and for the further advancement of the success of the participation programme.

‘Jim’s experience of nurturing partnerships will be invaluable in strengthening bonds with our core funders, Creative Scotland and City of Edinburgh Council and in taking us even further in bold initiatives like Dance for Parkinson’s Scotland, which is jointly delivered by Dance Base and Scottish Ballet, in partnership with Scottish Ballet and with generous support from Paul Hamlyn Foundation.’

Dance Base Artistic Director Morag Deyes said of Jim’s appointment:

‘The appointment of Jim Hollington as our new CEO is exciting and he is hugely welcome. We are all looking forward to working with Jim’s enthusiasm, wealth of experience and positive energy which will take us forward into a new era for Dance Base.’

Jim Hollington will take up the post of Dance Base Chief Executive on Monday 4 May 2020
