Dance Base Festival 22 was one of our most ambitious programmes to date and saw 36 companies from 12 countries present 40 dance and physical theatre shows exploring and celebrating life and the human condition through themes of sexuality, disability, climate crisis and feminism in over 300 performances. We welcomed 12,000 visits to our Grassmarket venue in August as people enjoyed the inspirational programme, curated by Morag Deyes MBE who now left the organisation after 26 visionary years at its helm.
The Industry Hub, created in collaboration with The British Council, offered a one-stop shop for performing arts industry engagement at the Edinburgh festivals. As well as a place to relax and recharge in between shows, it also offered an exciting programme of events, produced in collaboration with the major Fringe programming venues, UK and international showcases and other major festivals, including Made in Scotland, Horizon, Arts Council of Wales and Arts Council Northern Ireland, Swiss Selection, From Start to Finnish, #DANISH, Taiwan Season, Spotlight Canada, Quebec and Culture Ireland, Edinburgh International Festival and major producing venues such as Assembly and Summerhall.
Tony Mills will present his first Dance Base Festival programme in 2023.
