Professional Contemporary with Stephen Pelton | Tue 13 - Sun 25 Aug | 11.45-13.15

£7.50

Level: Professional Drop-in 90min Festival Drop-in Pro 90min Instructor: Stephen Pelton

Stephen Pelton is the artistic director of the London-based Stephen Pelton Dance Theatre, now in its 22nd year. He is also associate director for Yorke Dance Project. Pelton has taught for Rambert, DV8, Matthew Bourne, Random and Ballet Preljocaj. He also teaches at Laban, The Place, and Central School of Ballet.

Raised in the Limon tradition, Pelton’s technique classes move from Limon’s swing, fall and recover fundamentals to ballet placement exercises to yoga-inspired strengthening practices to combinations exploring Pelton’s own lyrical and idiosyncratic movement style. Each day’s movement material accumulates into a longer, final choreographic phrase that reinforces technical principles from earlier in the class. Movement dynamics, musicality and a passionate use of space are essential qualities of Pelton’s classes. As are his insistence upon using humor as a means of breaking through our inhibitions, unifying the group and finding new dimensions in our dancing.
As one of Europe’s most sought-after teachers of Limon-inspired contemporary technique, Stephen’s commitment is to meet, challenge and inspire each dancer, whatever their level of expertise, through direct feedback and supportive encouragement.

This class is open to professional level dancers. You can book in person or by phoning reception on 0131 225 5525. Please note you are not able to pay for Festival Classes with your Dance Base Points or credit.
