About the Class
Meet the Teachers
Matthew Hawkins
Matthew trained at Royal Ballet School but switched to contemporary dance to broaden his horizons.
His switch saw him become a founding member of Second Stride and Michael Clark dance companies. He also presented his own work and studied Cunningham technique at source.
During his career he has been awarded Jerwood Choreography prize, a Dance Artists Fellowship from Arts Council England, a Herald Angel award and Professional Development/Choreographic Futures support from Creative Scotland.
Matthew's teaching experiences include open classes in Contemporary technique at London's Pineapple studios (1986-99), technique and choreography workshops at CNDC (Angers, France, 1991-2004) and guest teaching with Rambert and Random Dance Companies.
At Dance Base he has taught students of all levels and capabilities including professionals, beginners, elders and those with special needs.
How to prepare
Wear comfortable clothing and footwear.
Carer/support workers attend free, but must book a place.
Please call before attending without a booking to check if there is space in the class.
Please bring an extra layer of clothing due to the changeable Scottish weather and as we continue to ensure ventilation in our studios.
