Dance Health Manager

Dance Base is currently recruiting for a Dance Health Manager

Location: Based in Edinburgh, but will be required to deliver educational activities, and attend meetings and events across Scotland.

Job summary: Funded by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, Dance Base, in partnership with Scottish Ballet, will deliver a Scotland-wide Dance for Parkinson’s (DfPS) programme, involving the creation of hubs across the country. This post will also manage and coordinate other relevant outreach dance projects that work with children, young people, adults and older adults.

Focusing on health and wellbeing, this post will administer, plan and deliver Dance for Parkinson’s Scotland, delivered in partnership with Scottish Ballet. They will also play an active role in the day-to-day running and long-term vision of the participation department.

 
Reports to: Chief Executive
 
Key working relationships:

  • The position reports to the Chief Executive and is a member of the Participation team
  • The position works closely to support the Dance Artist (Parkinson’s), Participation Manager and freelance practitioners.
  • Requires the ability to build excellent relationships with freelance tutors and musicians, educational institutions, cultural organisations, community organisations and groups, students, local authorities and venue staff.   

Key responsibilities:

  • To work as an integral member of the Participation team in delivering high quality initiatives;

Specific duties:

  • Where appropriate, liaise with Scottish Ballet to gather appropriate information and support material, to inform the delivery of Dance for Parkinson’s
  • Prepare appropriate support and resource materials for projects in consultation with the Participation Manager
  • Liaise with freelance tutors and musicians (in conjunction with the Participation Manager) on Dance for Parkinson’s Scotland, to ensure they are suitably prepared the specific needs of people with Parkinson’s, while continuing to uphold the standards of excellence offered by Dance Base
  • Work with the CEO and Participation Manager in establishing and maintaining excellent working relationships with external partners.
  • To monitor and evaluate all outreach projects to enable accurate reporting to Creative Scotland and other key funding bodies.
  • Attend all relevant meetings as required, including chairing the national steering group meeting in collaboration with Scottish Ballet.
  • Raise the profile of the programme by attending networking meetings and conferences as required.
  • Work closely with the Scottish Ballet Dance for Parkinson’s team and partners nationally, to ensure we strategically and cohesively deliver the programme.
  • Manage and monitor Dance Base’s Dance for Parkinson’s budget – up to £200,000 per annum.
  • Contribute towards the funding and sustainability of the Dance for Parkinson’s Scotland programme and other dance projects, both locally and nationally.
  • Raise the profile and advocate on behalf of Dance Base and the Dance for Parkinson Scotland programme.
  • Ensure the effective monitoring and evaluation of the Dance for Parkinson’s programme, including working in partnership with research partners such as Royal Conservatoire Scotland and preparing reports for funders.

Key attributes:

  • Excellent project management skills and experience of devising and leading multi-art form projects and initiatives, in community settings
  • Experience of collaboration within an arts organisation (desirable).
  • Experience of leading small project teams and managing freelance practitioners.
  • Knowledge of dance, and an understanding and appreciation of Dance Base’s artistic vision.
  • Knowledge and understanding of participatory arts activities across Scotland.
  • Good IT skills, including windows based packages.
  • Ability to work alone or as a member of a team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish excellent working relationships, both internally and externally.
  • Budgetary management skills
  • Current, full, clean driving licence (desirable).
  • A positive, pro-active and flexible approach.
  • Thorough, accurate and able to work to tight deadlines.
  • Flexibility with working hours in order to cope with travel, attending performances and other events.
  • Willingness to share skills and experiences.
  • An enthusiastic attitude to arts education in its broadest sense.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Terms and conditions: 24 hours per week
Salary: £26,500 per annum (pro rata £15,900)
Hours & place of work: Dance Base, Edinburgh with the need for frequent travel nationally
Contract: 2-year fixed term contract
Holidays: 32 days paid holiday per year pro-rata with designated public holidays.
Overtime: No overtime is payable but will be given as Time off in Lieu with the agreement of your Line Manager.
