Following the success of Curious Seed’s award-winning production found in 2009, Catalyst is producing P U S H - the company’s ambitious new full length dance theatre performance touring from February 2012.

The logic of P U S H is the logic of a dream…

There is a young girl on a swing. Is she a memory? Perhaps she is the future.  The world of P U S H is full of contradictions and challenges, hopes, fears, needs, desires, and poetry in the mundane.  A group of people inhabit this timeless place.  What’s brought them to this world? What ripped their lives apart?  Their ordinary extraordinary stories unfold and remind us to question what’s important.  What pushes you to move, to say something, to push back?

Conceived and directed by Christine Devaney, with her growing trademark of marrying expressive choreography and live music with poetic text and video images, P U S H involves six performers, a wall, a young girl and an ensemble of “extra/ordinary” people.  This promises to be Curious Seed’s most challenging and beautiful production to date.

Key to this new work is the contribution of “real” people – their voices, their stories, their lives and their presence.  Curious Seed are developing a project alongside the creation of P U S H which will integrate non-professional performers physically into the piece as well as utilising their collective contribution into the material (in movement, text, visuals etc.) through responding directly to the work’s themes, ideas and questions.  These people will become Curious Seed’s ‘extra/ordinary ensemble’ and their personal and individual experiences and contribution will be woven into the work.

This work is funded by Creative Scotland and PUSH will be produced in association with Platform.
