This autumn, Scottish Ballet brings a fascinating programme of pure dance to the Festival Theatre. Opening this dynamic triple bill is Frederick Ashton’s Scènes De Ballet. Set to the sophisticated Stravinsky score, this stylish work famously makes use of geometric patterns in a piece of breathtaking precision.
At the centre of this diverse programme is the world premiere of Still Life by San Francisco Ballet choreographer Val Caniparoli. Set to two chamber scores by Uzbekistani composer Elena Kats-Chernin and featuring Sandra Woodall’s stunning designs, this new work showcases Caniparoli’s distinctive choreographic style. Bringing the evening to a close is the Olivier Award-winning Fearful Symmetries, which was created by Artistic Director Ashley Page (Royal Ballet) in 1994. A visually striking piece, Fearful Symmetries takes its design cues from Mark Rothko and New York abstract expressionists and is inspired by John Adams’ vibrant score. If you’d like to learn more about Scottish Ballet, Outside In takes a behind the scenes look at how the Company works together to bring world class dance to the stage, with members of the music, education and ballet staff exploring the artistic themes of each ballet in Geometry and Grace.
