Maria Conte

Maria “Tote” Conte has been teaching and performing flamenco at Dance Base since 1994. Tote has trained in dance since childhood is schools throughout Andalusia. Founder of Flamenco Puro, she reached critical acclaim at the Edinburgh Fringe during the 90s. Her current ensemble, Flame & Fury, is an original and inspiring encounter between Celtic music and flamenco dance which involves a group of cutting edge Scottish musicians. Tote has always strived to disseminate Spanish culture in Scotland, and particularly Flamenco. In 2004 she founded Scotland's only Hispanic Festival, a series of events that celebrate the art and cultures of all Spanish speaking residents in Scotland.
