The Catalyst project lies at the core of Dance Base’s work with professional dance artists, allowing us not only to help companies create new work, but also to make the sector financially strong, confident and artistically compelling. Our passion for Scottish and UK dance drives Catalyst, inspiring individual dancers, companies, audiences and funders.

It is an unique resource for the professional dance community in Scotland, assisting with organisational development and contributing vital skills to smaller companies and emerging artists who cannot afford full-time administrators, producers or company managers.

Services include: production support and management, building networks, advice on budgeting and financial issues; assistance with negotiations between venues, companies and producers; marketing support; general company management, including contractual issues, administration, HR, business planning, strategic planning and project supervision; organisational development and audience development.

The support provided by Catalyst recognises the needs of the artist when considering the development of their artistic practice and production of work, as well as recognising the needs of the sector as a whole. By working closely with both companies and promoters, Catalyst can offer an integrated support structure which matches work with audiences and seeks to develop existing and new audiences for dance and Scottish choreographic output. Catalyst directly helps companies to identify the wider impact of their work and practice for the benefit of its audience.
